Phaedrus has a good point. The 8-million share buy back may
be an attempt to prop up the stock after releasing news of
yet another bad quarter.

The last 4-million shares management purchased certainly
weren't a bargain (relative to today's prices).

The shares being purchased are not being retired, but are
targeted for employee stock options. This is how ADI
attempts to keep their designers. They need to repurchase
stock occasionally to support their option grants and to
support the price of the stock in the face of bad news.

ADI is very interested in supporting the price of the stock,
since this is how management, and most designers, are
compensated.
