For a minute I thought you meant the rudder snapped off!

Was predisposed to that conclusion since you put me in mind of a couple of island hops I took in the Philippines.

One in a small boat overloaded with fresh water bound for a waterless island. I thank god that it wasn't me who eventually commanded the water merchants to dump their cargo, as the swells rose and the chop broke over the two inch high hull.

Or, how about the putt-putt outrigger from Cebu to Negros whose motor stops midway, as the swell rises and the sun descends!

I was truly scared twice in a 10 day visit to the Philippines.
