Hi Dwight, Culture and values lie at the heart of this entire issue. We know it instinctively, I would like to explore it a bit tonight...
Trust, principles, values and our culture.
America has a culture. Culture protects us, it's like the immune system which fights off invading virusus. It's the area in which people exercise their individual freedom. Manners, ethics and principles are at it's core. This is where we choose to be kind to one-another, to obey the basic laws of society. Trust is fundamental to this ideal. People who are not fundamentally trustworthy are carrying aids to our culture. They are underminding the culture which is the very fabric of the immune system. Leadership must be built on a foundation of trust. And this can only come from trustworthy people. This is what strengthens our country in times of crisis. No matter what problems we are faced with, a strong culture, centered on trust can overcome any problem. Principles are at this center. We don't need a person who is hollow here. A leader who lies infects the entire immune system. The short term solution might be less painful, but what damage will it do long term?
Is this the values of leadership we want our children to accept? Have we come this far, this fast? Yes son, we know he is a lier, an adulterer, yes we know he had sex with a 21 year old in the Oval office, but our mutual funds are up, so it's ok. We don't want to upset the apple cart?
Just like a corporation which trades short term profits for long term damage, I fear we are about to do the same with America.
Is this now our standard of leadership?
What next?
