I saw some people at COMDEX Enterprise give a panel discussion and they said companies realize their weakest link is their suppliers. It is important to clean your own house and prepare, but if all your suppliers crack on Jan 1, your business falls as well.

Therefore, they are hiring people to do visits to companies and if they are not ready, they will be warned to find a solution, or loose the business. A few of these visits leading to losses of 10% or greater sales will shake things up a bit.

It costs something like $3 a line of code to fix a system. Big banks have too much vested in their systems, but smalll companies must realize they need to upgrade. We should see some solutions software people like CA doing well, but we don't.

I suppose one has to ask what strange things are occuring? I don't know. Maybe like you say, we'll see a huge upswing in sales next year. People will wait for a new Win NT and then do mass upgrade, followed by weak sales. But, the enterprise doesn't run on a PC. We should see rising sales for large systems and software.

Regards,

Mark
