Ericsson wins major expansion order in Taiwan

Ericsson has signed an agreement with Chunghwa Telecom of Taiwan valued at USD
49 million (SEK 390 million) for the upgrading of their wireless AMPS network.

Ericsson solutions will provide enhanced quality in the network, including
software and hardware upgrades as well a replanning of their wireless network
using advanced cell planing techniques.

Chunghwa Telecom will also be the first wireless operator in Asia to install
Ericsson's new Mobile Switching Center, MSC 2000. In addition, they will
install the latest base stations from the RBS 884 series. This combination of
the new switching center and base stations form a strong technical base for
providing high quality services.

Chunghwa currently has 700,000 subscribers on their nationwide network and has
had substantial growth since the initial network launch 1989. After completion
of this project, Chunghwa Telecom will be employing the latest available
software making their network '2000 compliant' for the turn of the century, as
well as incorporating strong fraud prevention functionality.

There are nearly 90 million subscribers using D-AMPS/AMPS networks worldwide.
D-AMPS was the first technology to be commercially available as a dual-band
(800/1900 MHz) and dual-mode (analog/digital) technology. Nearly 16 million
subscribers are already using D-AMPS digital services.

Ericsson is a full communications supplier for network operators and service
providers, enterprises and consumers. With more than 100,000 employees in 140
countries, Ericsson is world leading in both mobile and fixed communications
solutions.
