SAN JOSE, Calif. (BUSINESS WIRE) - Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTAP), the leading provider of dedicated data-access appliances and storage servers, today announced it is co-sponsoring the industry's first CIFS (Common Internet File System) Interoperability Lab with Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT). The CIFS Interoperability Lab coincides with the annual CIFS Technology Conference scheduled for October 12-16, 1998 at the Hyatt St. Claire Hotel in San Jose, California.

The Interoperability Lab marks the first time vendors can test their CIFS or Server Message Block (SMB)-based software products together to trouble-shoot and re-code in a collaborative setting. The Microsoft and Network Appliance(TM) (NetApp(R)) co-sponsored Interoperability Lab offers participants a testing environment that includes the latest Microsoft software.

Lab participants also have the opportunity to preview the latest beta version of Microsoft Windows NT 5.0. The much-anticipated Microsoft product will be part of vendor test suites during the five-day event.
