Gene - Re: "And what impact do you think Celeron will have on PII shipments"

Some time next year I suspect Intel will offer up a Katmai with perhaps 256 KiloBytes L2 cache on chip or more to replace the current Deschutes.

This Katmai will form the basis of the PERFORMANCE end of Desktop PCs.

The Celeron A will probably drop in price from ~$200 to $120 but will be replaced by faster 366 MHz and 400 MHz Celerons that come in at higher prices - probably > $200.

As Intel drops prices on existing CPUs, they always manage to introduce newer, faster CPUs at the old HIGHER prices - which offsets the ASP decline in the older products.

This cycle has been repeated over and over and I suspect Intel's design and manufacturing expertise will allow them to continue to do so.

If you are uncomfortable with this scenario, I suggest you sell out your Intel and buy in to AMD. Today's pricing makes this a very advantageous trade and your confidence in AMD seems in stark contrast to your near-panic level about Intel's future.

Sell your Intel - buy AMD.

You'll feel more comfortable.

If you TRULY feel the winner will be the lowest price bomber, AMD is your ammunition.
