The Corel you paint has no direction or ability to simultaneously compete with Microsoft and co-exist.

Actually, I believe that most of us are of the opinion that the single largest mistake that Corel made was to try and compete head to head with Microsoft. Corel had somewhat of a "niche" market of dedicated purchasers, and many users felt Corel products were much better than Microsoft's. The only thing MC accomplished by "calling out" Microsoft was to draw Bill Gates' attention, and subsequently lead to Corel faltering in direct competition with Microsoft. The fact that MC and/or his advisers believe this direction is the right one for Corel, shows a lack of thought and anticipation of the future direction of the company. MC has demonstrated that he is good at start-up companies (Mitel, Corel), but eventually his grandiose ideas and inability to handle the "growing pains" of a successful company, cause the company and the shareholders to suffer.
