Kevin - Re: "Tell me, does it surprise you that Gateway is using the
450 MHz Xeon?"

Yes!

It surprised you, didn't it?

Re:" Would it surprise you if Gateway announced they were using a K6-2 ?"

No - October 26 is the date I have heard

re: "only a pure sucker would buy a Xeon for their home computer--"

Why?

Xeons are FAST. If people need or want speed, they can get it.

Are people who drive Mercedes suckers? Lexus?

If people want cheap, they can get that too - a K6-2 or Cyrix Miis

That's why Rolex keeps selling watches and making good profits while Casio pumps out the cheapies and barely breaks even.

Paul

PS - Sounds like you are a bit upset at the Gateway/XEON announcement. It kinda takes away the "lustre" from the upcoming low end Gateway K6-2 box - doesn't it?
