E,
Unless you have a market maker page in front of you while these trades come across the tape it can be very difficult at times to say absolutely for sure if a trade is a buy or sell. Having the market maker page just makes it easier but not for sure. I have known cases where a stock has shown a volume of over 100,000 shares traded when in fact only 5,000 shares actually changed hands. Most of the trades at the bid today were all 5,000 share blocks or two 2,500 shares blocks back to back. This is IMO not retail selling. I believe the MM's continued their shorting today simply because the buying exceeded their inventory plus what little they took in. Sometimes the MM's will paint the tape at the bid to create panic selling or at the ask to create a lot of buying.

Best Regards
