Newsweek did a good job covering some information that was released last week concerning a drop in AIDS deaths in the US.

"When it comes to AIDS, good news often comes with news no one wants to hear. Last week the National Center for Health Statistics announced that deaths from AIDS decreased 46.4 percent in 1997, from 31,130 in 1996 to 16,685 last year. AIDS was not one of the top 10 causes of death for the first time since 1991"...

"But even though fewer people are dying, studies show that the infection rate is holding steady at about 40,000 new cases a year"...
