Holly,
The Colby site, on a superficial read, seems to have a good argument. He is a lawyer, though, and paid to concoct good arguments, so I wouldn't jump to conclusions based solely on that - I'd want to read a good deal more than I have time to before reaching any kind of conclusion. It would be interesting to see a rebuttal from the opposing camp.
I'm by no means sufficiently well informed to have an opinion on what smoke does to the lungs of smokers. I know all too well what it does to mine. Another good reason (among many) not to enter politics - I wouldn't last a minute in the proverbial smoke-filled room.
I have noticed lately, though, that more and more smokers are asking permission. Some of my smoking friends do odd little dances around me outdoors, trying to stay downwind, which really isn't needed. Almost embarrassing, at times, but I do appreciate the concern. My acid test, sometimes applied in restaurants (no laws about it here) is to whip out the inhaler and suck some down. Probably 90% of smokers respond at once. The others... well, what can I say? It's always the abusive few who ruin it for everyone else.
