Craig/KJ , question for you guys... Who/what/why buy this product ( 3 ports) at this price :
San Jose, Calif. - November 10, 1997 -- Gadzoox Networks, Inc. today announced the Denali Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) area switch, the next step in implementing the enterprise SAN. Gigabit performance and scaleability make the Denali area switch ideal for cost-effectively increasing bandwidth, expanding FC-AL connectivity, connecting to Fibre Channel fabric switches, and supporting remote back-up applications. The Denali switch can be used in storage area networks based on Gadzoox' unmanaged BitStrip™ or managed Gibraltar™ hubs, as well as other vendors' FC-AL hubs. The Denali switch features Ventana™, the industry's first SAN management architecture, introduced with the Gibraltar product line in June 1997. Denali's embedded Nomad™ management agent enables Ventana to provide enhanced capabilities that allow the IS professional to view not only hub ports but also identification and status information for attached SCSI devices and storage subsystems. The Denali switch begins beta shipping in December, 1997. Volume shipping will begin in Q1CY98. Pricing begins at $12,250.
The Denali switch provides three fully segmented Gigabit-speed Fibre Channel Arbitrated loops resulting in a three-fold increase in bandwidth and improved network performance. It extends loop connectivity from the normal range of 126 nodes to 378, and with a cascaded configuration to 32,000 nodes. The Denali switch also provides connection to a Fibre Channel fabric switch from any port automatically without reconfiguring the network.
"With the introduction of the Denali area switch, Gadzoox continues to expand its line of managed infrastructure products designed to provide customers with a cost-effective migration that protects investment in existing SAN infrastructure," said Bill Sickler, president and CEO of Gadzoox. "Gadzoox is committed to offering customers reliable access to data by providing robust scaleability, high availability and network manageability for their storage area networks." Applications such as multimedia Internet and Intranet access, digitized video, data warehousing, on-line transaction processing, LAN free backup and recovery are dramatically increasing the requirements for access to mass storage and storage subsystems. Fibre Channel SAN connectivity provides customers with a faster, more reliable, and more easily scaleable networking alternative for growing server-storage environments than is possible with traditional SCSI bus technology.
Gadzoox Networks, Inc. is an industry leader in gigabit-speed Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop products for the open storage area networking (SAN) market. The company provides a complete line of SAN connectivity products including hubs, switches and gateways. Headquartered in San Jose, Calif., Gadzoox is privately held and markets products to system integrators, VARs and OEMs.
