They were talking about World War III, not World War II. And it was not the general public talking, either. It was a bunch of hoity-toity intellectuals. What struck me as so funny, and so gruesome, at the time was that they were talking about "saving" a civilization that could not possibly have survived the kind of nuclear exchange they were talking about. (This was no one-sided Nagasaki or Hiroshima.) Oh well, I guess you had to be there... I have a feeling I am never going to feel nostalgic for the 90's, either. jbe
