Questions for an avionics or packaging engineer:

The MKII-8 is rated for an altitude of 0–10,000 feet operating, 0-50,000 feet non-operating. Why the limitation on altitude, especially while operating? Is it heat dissipation?

The switch weighs 15.5 pounds, and is fairly large for the number of chips on the board. What is the likelyhood that it could be repackaged with an external power supply in a plastic package for desktop/ wall mount usage as a cost reduction? Perhaps commercial grade electronics would be used, as well. The bullet-proof, hot-swapable, rack mount design is probably the main market today, but I am thinking of the expanded consumer/SOHO market that may develop in a year or two.

TIA,
Greg
