Don't agree with you on this one Ben ...
You are right, HPCs are lacking ram, speed, and coms, but then again, everything out now is first generation. Look at how limiting the 1st generation newton was. Also looks at aapl's past success with keeping their OS propriotary, or rather, not open. WindowsCE is open and has dozens of hardware and software manufactures on board actively developing products. their OS is ported to at least 4 processors, so speed won't be a problem for long, and RAM is cheep now, this limiation shouldn't last by 2nd generation machines.
Don't get me wrong, I have my fair share invested in aapl and want to see them succeed.
I know a lot of people on this thread don't agree with my stand on the Newton, but I'm trying to be objective with the competetion. I also feel that aapl has had plenty of time to turn the newton into a killer machine (not that the 2000 isn't in its own right).
I am in with aapl for the long haul. I have faith that they will rise again. There are too many "people" who have vested interest in aapl succeeding (e.g. Motorola), and are dedicated to help aapl. Plus, the line of CEO's would probably reach around their nice research plan in Cupertino if the job opens up again. They just need some time to restructure, much like IBM did. And hopefully, they (with Jobs) has the brains to bring them back up and transform aapl from a hw company into a sw and technology company.
The more I read, the less optimistic I get about Jan. 7 being a major day for aapl shareholders. They will probably be very conservative and general in their speeking and committments.
But time will tell. |
