Enbridge: A New Kind of Energy Company
TORONTO, Oct. 13 /CNW/ - Consumers Gas took a step into Canada's energy future today with the launch of Enbridge - a new kind of energy company. Enbridge transforms a family of energy companies - built on the strengths of Consumers Gas and IPL Energy -- into ''one company with one vision,'' according to Consumers Gas President Rudy Riedl. ''Change is sweeping our industry, bringing with it competition and customer choice,'' Riedl said. ''It is also challenging us to innovate again, as we have done throughout our 150 year history. ''These changes will soon enable us to deliver services beyond natural gas, such as electricity and water. One day, Enbridge may even offer 'one-stop shopping' for phone, cable, computer and Internet services. The possibilities are almost endless.'' Riedl said to prepare for leadership in this environment, Consumers Gas and IPL Energy decided to adopt a new, corporate-wide identity, reflecting activities from crude oil transportation and the world's longest pipe line system to natural gas sales and distribution and a growing line of retail products and services. ''The result is Enbridge - a fusion of 'energy,' which is what we are all about; and 'bridge,' which suggests a link between the present and an exciting future for ourselves and our company, as well as a seamlessness in energy service delivery.'' Riedl stressed that the transition to the new name would be phased in over a period of at least one year, to invest Consumers Gas' 150 years of brand recognition into Enbridge as it becomes familiar to customers. ''And while our name is new, our dedication to excellence in customer service will never change.
