Good point. I had forgotten about the BTAB report.The CEO's of larger companies have experts to advise them on possible stock market reactions to company announcements, but most smaller companies lack this kind of advice. Often it seems that management of these companies are completely surprised by market reaction to what they consider are routine announcements. Also company management is more interested in running the company than running the stock , at least in the short term. F.U.D. do make for great opportunities, but only if you can stay immune to it. I've found this easier said than done.
BTW, I just spoke to my broker and he brought up the point that the market is being held down by 2 things 1) Mutual funds don't want to end the year showing a loss but having big taxable capital gains, so they are selling to realize losses to balance capital gains. 2) Corporations are beginning to anticipate a recession, so they are cutting expenditures for expensive items that can be delayed for a while. Expensive new ERP software would certainly fit this catagory of deferred expenses, so maybe the market is saying that while this quarter is fine, ERP companies are going to follow with a couple of down quarters until any fears of recession are cleared.
