PRESS RELEASE CITADEL PROCUCTS BEING RECOGNIZED AND USED IN THE MIAMI-DADE SCHOOLS ::....................................................................
Tuesday October 13, 8:32 am Eastern Time Company Press Release Miami-Dade Public School District to Distribute Citadel Technology's Desktop Security Software WinShield Selected for Strength in Protecting Against Unauthorized Use, Accidental Desktop Problems DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 1998-- Citadel Technology, Inc. (OTCBB: CITN - news) today announced that the Miami-Dade Public School District, the nation's fourth-largest, will begin to distribute Citadel's desktop management and security software. Citadel's award-winning WinShield software will be used to protect the school system's PCs from unauthorized activity and ''down time'' from user-induced desktop problems.
''With over 65,000 PCs accessed by young people throughout their school system, keeping desktops operational with minimal technical support is critical to Miami-Dade,'' says Steve Solomon, Citadel CEO and President. ''As they deploy WinShield to their schools, they'll spend much less time fixing problems, and also protect themselves from unauthorized software installations or other misuse, intentional or unintentional.''
WinSheild's specialty is protecting the configuration of Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT desktops. An administrator, working at an individual PC or from a network console, can easily and quickly assign desktop privileges to individual users or to entire groups with ''profiles'' that are invoked when a user logs on. Multiple profiles on a single PC can accommodate users with varying access needs.
Each WinShield profile determines what applications can be accessed at the desktop, the extent to which a user can modify system settings and desktop appearance, which specific CD-ROMS and network drives the user can access, and where the user can save or open files. To safeguard against security workarounds, WinShield can also restrict the user's DOS and Explorer access.
''Completely securing the PC requires protecting it from configuration errors and shielding it from the introduction of unlicensed or inappropriate software,'' continues Solomon. ''At the same time, in a learning environment, it's important that students have as complete a desktop experience as is appropriate. WinShield delivers the protections these PCs need, without disrupting normal use. Miami-Dade Public School District is one of the nation's most advanced in computing, and we're pleased that WinShield will further their computing success.''
