John, I am writing this message on my Cyrix 6x86L P200+ CPU installed in a MTech Mustang R534WP motherboard. I had problems at the beginning they were as follows:
1) Confusing Motherboard documentation associated with the Power jumpering.
2) Slow memory, I thought I had 60ns EDO memory but I didn't.
3) Improperly labeled Jumper JP5.

When I used the proper speed memory, with the proper voltages, and set-up linear burst mode in the Bios, everything worked perfectly.

My Cyrix chip runs cool. The IBM and Cyrix chips are manufactured on the same line. THE DIE ARE THE EXACT SAME. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM. Is that clear enough or is there some ambiguity in what I said. For a given clock rate and die, the power is the same!

The older Cyrix chips and the IBM chips dissipated more heat than the newer Cyrix and IBM chips. Cyrix ships the older chips with a heavy duty heatsink and high velocity fan. I have never had a problem with a properly installed Cyrix chip.

I do know a friend of mine who has a Pentium 166MHz System that has been unreliable for the last couple of months. Should I conclude that Intel is a low quality supplier based on this experience. I don't think that would be a valid conclusion.

What is the basis for your conclusion that the IBM Manufactured 6x86 for IBM is better than the IBM manufactured 6x86 for Cyrix.

I seriously would like to hear your response because these statements are confusing to me at least, perplexing at best.

Bob
