Michelle - Murphy Brown "issue backlash" didn't put Clinton into office - Bush's "read my lips: No new taxes," the little nut from Texas and a spectacularly supportive media got Clinton there. For just one media example, remember the Dan Quayle "potatoe" spelling story? You remember how much airplay that got? Do you also remember Bill Clinton's speech where he responded to the "no military experience" challenge with the "Abraham Lincoln was never in the military, and most people think he was a pretty good president" statement? Do you remember the press reaction to that? It was trotted out on all three of the nightly news programs with statements like "Mr. Clinton addressed accusations about his military record by pointing out the fact that Abraham Lincoln . . ." Did you know that no one in the media ever challenged him on that - until after the election? That's how we "got" a Bill Clinton in the WH. "Family values" is now a Demo code phrase for scaring young, undereducated, insecure women away from Republican candidates. Mr. K.
