Wasn't IBM mentioned in that list of Quadritek customers? Xylan is small potatoes and probably wasn't given a second thought when Lucent bought Quadritek.

In fact they would probably love to have the software in as many companies boxes as possible. Then they start to control the standard for network management (at least that portion). Once the firmware is out there, they start collecting royalties on all the little agents and other software that manages the information the firmware creates.

If Lucent wanted Quadritek's product to integrate into Lannet products, I doubt they had to buy the company.
