The problem with this challenge is that the AMD K7 is bound to beat the Pentium II in some benchmarks, but not others. If it isn't Winstone 97, it'll be 3D Winbench. If it isn't 3D Winbench, it will be SpecFP95. You can bet that the debates will go on and on over which processor is better, K7 or Katmai/Tanner.

Of course, none of this means jack if AMD can't execute well on the K7. Wall Street is using AMD's spotty history on new architecture rollouts as a prediction of AMD's near-term future. For AMD investors, this either means a time to sell, or a time to hold and hope for a surprise. This is in contrast to Intel, a stock which is pretty much a long.
