Powerwave Technologies Announces Lucent Order
<<IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 1998--Powerwave Technologies Inc.
(Nasdaq: PWAV - news) Tuesday announced that it has been awarded a $12 million
follow-on order to supply single channel PCS-CDMA amplifiers to Lucent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:LU - news).
This follow-on order is an increase to existing orders which Powerwave assumed on completion of its acquisition of
Hewlett-Packard Company [NYSE:HWP - news]'s radio frequency (RF) power amplifier business. The acquisition closed on
Oct. 9, 1998. This order covers single channel PCS-CDMA amplifiers for use in Lucent's PCS-CDMA wireless
communications base stations.

Not counting the potential recovery from Asia and other oversea markets next
year, U.S. domestic cellular carriers are planning to significantly expand their
DIGITAl network capacity(both CDMA and TDMA.) These expansions are
required to migrate the analog traffic to digital network. In addition, all major
cellular carriers are/will be matching AT&T and Sprint PCS' aggressive $.10 per
minute anytime/everywhere promotions soon. They all need additional
"CAPACITY" to do that. That means, more amplifiers will be required to power
the additional voice paths/channels.
If PWAV can get something from MOT, LU, or any carriers directly, it will do
very well. If the overseas cellular markets recover next year, PWAV will do even
better. Let us hope PWAV can get MORE CONTRACTS soon. Keep in mind,
PWAV has much better products than LU's.
