I could be wrong, but I heard that the 8 port Silkworm is in the same box as the 16 port,ie. a stripped down version of the 16 port Silkworm ( can someone else confirm this? )as opposed to the MKII-8 which is total redesign versus the MKII-16. The Brocade Silkworm dimensions/weight are as follows: Height: 3.438 inches Width: 17.62 inches Depth: 16.99 inches Weight: 19 pounds By contrast, Gigworks MKII-8 is: Height: 1.72 inches Weight: 17.4 inches Depth: 13.6 inches Weight: 15.5 pounds Just looking at the comparitive heights/thickness of the 2 boxes, the Silkworm is twice as high ( 3.4 vs 1.7 inches)as the MKII-8 box.You can see that the smaller box design must have an impact on lower cost in addition to Ancor ASIC/integration.
