Searle: Many market indexes already are the equivalent of Dow 6000. The Russell 2000 small cap index has plunged about 38% -- almost twice as much as the Dow. The oil service index has plunged over 60%. But the Dow is off less than 20%.

We saw a similar pattern in the 1973-75 bear. The broad market collapsed early on but the blue chips of the day held up relatively well until the very end. But they finally got creamed. And that marked the end of the bear.

I do not see how this bear can end until today's blue chips finally get smashed big time. Mo less a personage than Zeev Head now sees the Dow going as low as 6200 next year before the bear ends.
