Does anyone have a handle on this question?

Yesterday's IBD had an article citing a Frost and Sullivan(?) study indicating that 1997 would be the year that video teleconferencing (VT) "arrives". Moreover, they estimated that by 2002, it would be a $35 billion dollar a year business. Some obvious beneficiaries are the networking companies. My general question is this: is OPTI poised to benefit from this development?

Some aspects to consider. Might VT spur sales of OPTI Sound? Are OPTI's graphics accelerators suited for VT, or might INTC/LHM or S3 be in a better position to benefit? Certainly Intel has a strong interest in VT. Will customers be likely to upgrade existing hardware to run VT, or would they be more likely to use new platforms with technology such as MMX and AGP for their VT applications?

Without knowing much about it, it occurs to me that OPTI might be a short-term beneficiary if existing Pentium systems can be retrofitted with add-on boards that support VT. However, INTC/LHM might reap longer term revenues if PPRO systems with INTC/LHM technology become the preferred platform for VT.
