Westell's ADSL High-Speed Technology to be Deployed
in BT's Interactive Services Network Trial

ADSL SuperVision(R) Selected by Fujitsu for Integration with FENS AN Access Management
System

AURORA, Ill., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Westell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: WSTL - news) announced today that, together
with Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Limited (Fujitsu), they have been awarded a contract to supply an integrated ADSL
system for BT Plc (BT). BT is using Westell's SuperVision Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) Access Multiplexer
and modem access equipment to provide ATM system solutions and ADSL networks for the BT Interactive Services Network
(ISN) Trial. The BT trial will extend up to 2,000 lines throughout North and West London. BT is currently testing various
applications, including video-based services and high-speed Internet access, delivered over Westell and Fujitsu ADSL
equipment.

Fujitsu's FENS-AN provides a comprehensive set of remote-access facilities encompassing Fault, Test, Configuration and
Security Management. The BT ISN trial is testing high-speed IP and ATM-based access services to businesses, service
providers and consumers. The trial will enable service providers with a platform upon which they can trial their own business
models for deployment.

''The integration of our DSL SuperVision technology into Fujitsu's network management system gives our customers a
technologically robust and highly cost effective end-to-end solution,'' stated J. Nelson, Westell President and Chief Operating
Officer. ''We are very pleased to be teaming with Fujitsu, one of the world's preeminent systems integrators, on this
follow-on from BT's previous network services trial. As demand increases for high-speed data services across Europe, we
look forward to a successful completion of the London-based trials.''

SuperVision consolidates individual DSL access line interfaces into a single high-speed interface to the switching network.
This reduces the cost to service providers for full-scale deployment of multimedia services such as high-speed Internet
access, video teleconferencing, corporate virtual private network services, distance learning, video-on-demand services and
remote LAN access. For the BT Trial, VideoNet will provide video based services and VirginNet and BT Interactive will
provide Internet services.

The complete Westell ADSL SuperVision system typically includes central office and remote customer premises units, POTS
splitters on both ends, the central office shelf and the DSL management system. SuperVision supports up to 252 subscribers
in a single system and it is scaleable to support up to six shelves per network interface. The DSL line modules are also rate
adaptive and will operate at speeds ranging from 640Kbps to 7.1Mbps downstream and 90Kbps to 1.088Mbps upstream.
Westell's ADSL solutions are interoperable and also compliant with industry standards, providing point-to-point protocol
(PPP) over asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) functionality. New applications, such as routing functions for multiple users
and multiple destinations, can be easily downloaded to the SuperVision ADSL modem. The SuperVision Multiplexer offers an
ETSI-standard shelf as well as 23 inch shelf mechanics, to meet the requirements of both telecommunications and data
communications applications.

Management of SuperVision is handled by Fujitsu's access network management system providing upward integration to BT
OSS systems. Access to the system is provided using industry standard Internet browsers. SuperVision's many features
include STM-1 interface, Dual Density Cards, ATM 25 and 10Base-T ADSL Terminal Unit-Remotes (ATU-R), DS3 and
Optical Carrier-3 (OC-3). SuperVision architecture is a modular system driven to support multiple interfaces and multiplexing
functions. It has the capability to give network operators the flexibility to configure their SuperVision shelf according to their
customers needs and network services required. As new technologies emerge, modules can be added or upgraded without
interfering with the other modules.
