LA JOLLA, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--Oct. 14, 1998--La Jolla
Diagnostics Inc. (OTC BB:LAJD), announced today that its new
subsidiary, DiagnosTech Inc., has signed an agreement with a major
medical products supplier in South Africa.
The distributor is a well known and well established medical
company that has been doing business in South Africa for over 20
years. The signed agreement provides for the distributor to complete
final assembly of the company's product in South Africa, and grants
the distributor exclusive rights for the sale of DiagnosTech's rapid
diagnostic test kits in South Africa as well as non-exclusive rights
for contiguous African countries, subject to performance requirements.
The distributor is committed to a national print and radio
advertising campaign, now in progress, designed to inform and motivate
patients, hospitals and clinics to fully utilize the new line of
DiagnosTech rapid diagnostics being introduced. Response to this
campaign has been very positive to date. The distributor estimates
sales at approximately 360,000 test kits for the first year.
Clinical trials have demonstrated excellent sensitivity and
specificity for each product. In addition, these tests are extremely
rugged. No component requires refrigeration, all of the reagents are
stable under extremes of heat and cold, and the test kit has a very
long shelf life. These performance characteristics, plus the fact that
manufacturing costs are very low, makes these products ideal for
economical sale on a widespread basis outside of the industrialized
world.
DiagnosTech, a subsidiary of La Jolla Diagnostics Inc. offers an
expanding line of rapid diagnostic products, including an entirely
unique test for active Tuberculosis (TB), as well as tests for HIV I &
II, H. pylori, Hepatitis B, Toxoplasma gondii and Trypanasoa cruzi.
