"There is an old saying in banking 'If you a bank a million dollars and can't pay you have a problem, if you owe them a billion dollars and can't pay they have a problem'."
Fred Smith, the founder of FedEx, told a slightly different version of that saying. When he was bleeding--pouring--red ink in the early years, he said he learned that when you borrow a little money and can't pay it back, the banks are angry creditors, but when you can't pay back a LOT of money, the banks become worried partners.
