From what you say, however, it is also entirely possible that the Dow can remain at its present level or even go up ! It all depends on the amount of liquidity in the system. Or anticipation of that liquidity.

That's why I venture to suggest, if only from the position of a Devil's Advocate, that the present strength in the Dow could be based on a perception of increased liquidity and not simply the stubborn refusal to believe what is, apparently, inevitable --- namely a fall.

All the same, I am beginning to believe the dictum which is currently doing the rounds : "Expect the unexpected!"
