ksm,

** OT **

ADSL - An old friend of mine dropped by last saturday and he has been involved with ADSL. He says that it is hot, and will make major inroads into the telecommunications area.

I works as follows:

Instead of using 2 phone lines ( talk and computer ), the computer will be superimposed on the talk phone line. (This will open up more phone lines.) The superimposed signal is 'stripped' at the telco end and fed directly into frame relay equipment, either supported by the telco or by an independent ISP. He said the 'rollout' cost is ~$40 per month and I think that that is for a 180K line. For more money you can get 8M! The access is via an internal or external card/box that you access through your computer 'network' access.

All in all, pretty cool! I think that the limit is 24K feet from the co, at this time. I'm looking forward to it!

Oh yes, you are 'online' all of the time, kinda like an ISP!

Regards,

Ken
