Summers says Rubin to stay in job 'for a while'

WASHINGTON, Oct 14 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin is likely to stay in his current position ''for a while,'' his deputy, Lawrence Summers, said on Wednesday.

''The Secretary made clear he's here for a while,'' Summers told the Washington Journal program on C-SPAN television. He declined to say whether he would take over from Rubin should the Treasury chief decide to leave his job.

''I'm just doing my job,'' Summers said.

Rumors of Rubin's imminent resignation have crept up repeatedly in financial markets over past months but have consistently been denied by Treasury.
