Michelle, actually I know of a lot of situations just like that. Here are two.

In March and April of 1997 PSFT had been falling pretty steadily just before earnings were announced. The company then produced blowout earnings.

In the summer of 1997 TLAB fell from the low 50's to around 42 in 2 days! Then ML upgraded the stock to a strong buy and the stock proceeded up to the 60's. The reason for the drop was the meeting the company had with ML analysts.

The moral of the story: don't read things into price movements that are not supported by news.

Second moral: if you eat lots of beans and grain those intestinal pangs you feel will never be blamed on the market. Flatulence overwhelms market-induced stomach butterflies.
