The Dia Met/BHP Diamonds Ekati diamond mine is now in production.
Construction of the mine has been completed on schedule and within budget.
Commissioning is well-advanced and all critical process equipment has been
tested and is operational. The ramping up of production began in early
October and has progressed smoothly, while fine-tuning work will continue
for the next several weeks.
All rough diamond production from the Ekati diamond mine will initially be
marketed through the BHP Diamonds (Belgium) sales office in Antwerp,
Belgium. The first shipment of rough diamonds to the sales office is
expected to occur within the next two weeks, and initial sales will occur
shortly thereafter.
