? for the thread
Recently I placed an order with my (new) trading outfit on the net to short LU @ 66 3/4. Got a signal that "You can only short stocks if you have a margin account". Now my account IS a cash account, but there was far more than enough funds to cover the short and any loss. Is this a common occurence, or some sort of SEC requirement? Or does someone else have a broker who will allow short selling in a cash account without margin? I mean, margin is for borrowing money. Short or long selling should be allowed in a cash account?
