I haven't read all the posts yet so perhaps someone else already brought this up but I think you're missing the point of WCDMA. WCDMA was designed to EXCLUDE IS95, not as ploy to reduce royalty rates although they'll be happy to use it for that also I'm sure. The intent is to create a system which gives GSM an ADVANTAGE as systems are upgraded to the next generation, a period which may well last 5 years.If it turns out that carriers can spend less money by starting with CDMAone on the path to 3G, then GSM expansion and those companies that are particularly dependent on it are in trouble. They will NOT give in simply because Q offers reduced royalty rates. If they are FORCED to capitualte, then lower rates MAY allow them to save face.

This Yahoo article is all well and good but I personally don't believe Q's response to ETSI which was published yesterday had a darned thing to do with todays move. The stock is very cheap and, as they say, oversold..
