Schumer has gotten too close to Clinton, seems that he chucked his soul for Clinton's $$$ and there is a backlash against Schumer:

SENATE RACE
WABC-TV/Daily News Poll
shows 8-point lead for
D'Amato

A new WABC-TV/Daily News poll gives
incumbent Senator Alfonse D'Amato an
eight point lead over democratic challenger
Rep. Charles Schumer in the race for U.S.
Senate.
Among likely voters, 52 percent say they
support Sen. D'Amato while 44 percent backed
Rep. Schumer. Two percent said they were
undecided.
Just three weeks ago, a WABC-TV/Daily
News Poll showed D'Amato and Schumer is a
statistical deadheat with likely voters choosing
D'Amato 48 percent to Schumer's 46 percent.
Analysis of the poll indicate that the negative ads
being run by both candidates may be hurting
Schumer the most. Analysts say because Schumer
is not as well known as D'Amato, much of what
many voters know about Schumer they are learning
from D'Amato's negative ads.
Three weeks ago, 28 percent of likely voters
said they had "no opinion" of Schumer. In the latest
poll that number dropped to 18 percent. Also in the
previous poll, 30 percent of likely voters had an
"unfavorable" opinion of Schumer. That number has
now jumped ten points to 40 percent.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus
5.5 percent.

btw, it's even worse for the Dem cand for Guv, since he started running ads supporting Clinton the bottom has dropped out for him as Pataki has increased his lead 57-25.

And NY is supposed to be Clinton's best state!
