Duncan, if your theory is true, why does the warming effect pick up remarkably at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution? And are you still arguing that the atmosphere is really cooling? I have heard all of these arguments before, and am utterly unimpressed. The fact is that you, and Michael Cummings, need for all of this to be true in order to justify a libertarian view of doing nothing to try to stop the damage that will result from global warming. Your basic belief is that you do not want to pay taxes to try and fix this, and you have gerrymandered the data to support your case. Incidentally, the list of "scientists" you cite is not really what it seems. Anyone with a degree in basic science is free to sign the petition, and it looks like my brother, who is a musician, has signed it as well. He must have thought it was a petition to legalize marijuana! Most of the people on the list have no advanced degrees in science at all, and many of those who do are medical doctors with libertarian belief systems like the cardio-thoracic surgeon who also shares my maiden name, who lives in Lousiana and doesn't really know diddly about global warming, but wants to preserve his wealth and is politically conservative.
