SAFLINK and Lernout & Hauspie Sign Licensing Agreement
TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- SAFLINK Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of The National Registry Inc. (Nasdaq: NRID - news) today announced that it has licensed speech recognition and speaker verification software technologies from Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products N.V. (L&H) (Nasdaq: LHSPF - news; EASDAQ: LHSP), a worldwide market leader in speech and linguistic technologies, products and services.
SAFLINK plans to integrate L&H Voice Print speaker verification software into its entire suite of biometric security software products and developer's tool kits including its recently announced SAFsite(TM) product, a cost effective security solution for the Internet. SAFsite enables web developers and site administrators to strengthen their system security by providing a more positive means of authenticating individuals' identities before granting them access to protected web pages. Unlike traditional passwords and other authentication schemes that can be easily forgotten, transferred between individuals, or discovered by hackers, SAFsite requires the presentation of a biometric credential, or SAFtyPIN(TM), created from an individual's voice, face, finger or other unique physical characteristic, for positive identification.
''SAFLINK is pleased to announce this relationship with Lernout & Hauspie and immediately offer its state-of-the-art technology as an integrated component in our SAF(TM) suite of biometric authentication products,'' said Clinton C. Fuller, SAFLINK's chief operating officer. ''The L&H speech recognition and speaker verification engines have proven to be an accurate, flexible and efficient way for network users to access business critical sensitive information. We are proud to welcome L&H as a SAFLINK technology business partner.''
''Our agreement with SAFLINK is a further example of the increasing demand for our speech technology,'' said Jerry Calabrese, president of L&H Core Speech Technologies Division. ''We believe that SAFLINK's position in the biometric security industry and its growing portfolio of standards based, HA-API compliant software products will bring the benefits of speech technology to a wider group of potential users.''
