SOITEC COMPLETES NEW BERNIN, FRANCE FACILITY -- Soitec, a manufacturer of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers, has moved to its new production facility in Bernin, France. Soitec believes the move demonstrates its ability to meet the growing global demand for volume quantities of SOI substrates. "With our new investments and strategic alliance with Shin-Etsu Handotai (SEH), the world's leading manufacturer of bulk silicon wafers, we have a production capacity five to ten times greater than our competitors," claims André Auberton-Hervé, corporate president of Soitec. The new $50M production plant is located in the same industrial zone as Thomson Microelectronics' new 8-inch wafer facility and recently announced 12-inch wafer facility. Soitec's new facility features 15,000 square foot class 1 clean room and exclusive wafer cleaning equipment from SEH.
