No Finn is named "Neil" or "Tim". We have decent names like "Yrjö", "Reiska" and "Väinö". I'm afraid this casts suspicion on the rest of your facts, Maurice. I have this theory that good people of Finland are driven to self-destruction by twisted enemies of Finnish high tech industry. Some of them having names like "Mike" and "Dave".

Anyway, I think Ericsson has dug themselves a hole. Their current stock resurgence is built on their recent claim that they are not losing market share to Nokia. This took the investment community by surprise. And for a good reason: they are being mendacious. Truth will come out next week.

The Nextel numbers are very interesting. They actually have lower number of subscribers than in the previous quarter. I think the sheer impossibility of the Mot-centric iDEN standard is starting to become obvious. As several GSM phone manufacturers introduce their new worldphone models functioning in about hundred countries during next winter, GSM should get a further boost in USA. Yeah, Motorola is bringing out an iDEN/GSM phone... but it will be a Motorola product.

One week until 3Q... consensus expects 39% sales growth. Nokia *should* show at least 45%. Depends on where the handset sales number is. I hope the growth there is in the 60%-70% range. Since Nokia's sales growth fizzled in the second half of 1997, that is not so hard to reach, especially since the growth was at 50% already during the second quarter of -98, even before the 51xx, 6150 and 8810 launches.
