Gephardt snubs Bubba or St Luis doesn't fund LIARs.

By The Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Clinton has backed out of a St. Louis
fund-raising dinner Friday, leaving it in the hands of Vice President
Al Gore and House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt, D-Mo.
White House press secretary Joe Lockhart said Clinton's visit was
scrapped because of ''all the demands we've put on him'' this week
during budget negotiations and his expected participation through the
weekend in the Middle East peace summit.
While dropping St. Louis, Clinton will go ahead with the other half
of the trip: a visit to Chicago to campaign for Sen. Carol
Moseley-Braun, in an uphill struggle for re-election. ''The president
felt pretty strongly that Carol Moseley-Braun needs his help and that
he is very anxious to go out there and lend his support,'' Lockhart said.
Clinton was to have attended a St. Louis fund-raising dinner whose
proceeds would be split among the Democratic National Committee and
the House and Senate campaign committees. Gore and Gephardt already
had been scheduled to participate.
