TO ALL:
Does anyone really think IBM would let Cyrix go down. I don't. I don't care how much trouble Cyrix gets in, they will never be ALLOWED to go under. IBM has too much to gain by sucking them dry like a vampire to let them go. Cyrix is the one chance IBM has at breaking their dependance on Intel. And everyone knows IBM hates Intel, because Intel has the closest thing to a monopoly in the x86 market (chips, boxes, whatever) and IBM wanted that.
Whether a buyout becomes an option, a merger, whatever (financing, lord knows IBM has the money) I think Cyrix has another bunch of years left.
A couple of other things too, I have been giving a lot fo thought to why Jerry left. I have come up with a couple of possible scenarios (these are only what MAY have happened, or they may all be wrong, I would be interested in comments).
1) He just got tired of trying to make the company fly. If you will, burned-out.
2) There may be a deal about to be announced (sales (product) or sale (company)) to someone he refused to deal with (personal reasons?).
3) A Steve Jobs' type scenario. There were two plans for the future of the company, Jerry's wsn't chosen so he left.
The other thing I am curoius about is that people keep talking like the M2 has fallen behind schedule. Come on, just because Cyrix hasn't bothered to say "yup, still going...". Personally I view the lack of news on the M2 as a sign that everyone is right on target. Look how little time it takes something to leak from a chip maker. Everyone knew about Intel's problems switching into MMX mode two days after Intel. Everybody knew AMD had taped the K6 2-3 days BEFORE AMD officially said so. Everyone knew the K5 was in trouble before AMD ever thought of admitting it.
My point is this, those who are getting nervous, relax, get drunk and when you wake up, it'll be all better 8>)
