The followers of maverick Democrat Lyndon H. LaRouche
Jr. have been out in force in recent weeks defending President
Clinton from possible consequences of his sex-and-lies
scandal.
Yesterday, the eccentric LaRouche movement took to the
Capitol steps shouting "Save Clinton, jail Starr, let's go back to
FDR," and "Who lies the most? The Washington Post."
One of the members, equipped with a bullhorn, helpfully
explained that Mr. Clinton is being persecuted because "he's
willing, under certain circumstances, to listen to Lyndon
LaRouche."
Mr. LaRouche, he said, has been been predicting imminent
global economic collapse. Mr. Clinton, apparently, is being
attacked by the evil cabal that opposes Mr. LaRouche and
wants to silence the truth.
Mr. LaRouche specializes in obscure worldwide conspiracy
theories, some centering on the hated British royal family. He
ran for president twice in the 1980s and once ran for Congress
while serving a jail sentence for his 1988 convictions on mail
and tax fraud.
