I'd recommend you install and learn NT. My setup running NT 4.0 and 128 meg of ram never has any of these problems. I run two versions of mIRC, Realtick 3, Outlook 98, 2 or 3 IE4.0 browser windows, MS Excel, and usually a couple of other apps all at the same time while trading.
I believe that the problem is with Win98. I have tried the above setup for quite a while on 95/98 and never could get it stable. Both mIRC and Realtick 3 disconnects were very common, usually a couple a day. These disconnects usually required a reboot of 98, redial to my ISP and open and setup everything all over. Very frustrating and time consuming, all this while trying to trade. This never happens on NT. If realtick does crash, the system doesn't go down and I just reload it with minimal time lost.
I guess I speak pretty emphatically on this subject, having done it both ways, I believe NT is the only option for serious online trading.

Feel free to ask if I can help you with any other questions regarding my system / setup etc. Now if I could only get my trading as stable as my system! :)
