If that's all you are going to do with it, it's okay with me. I don't mind logging in, but a userid cookie is pretty non-invasive. I know of numerous others sites that use them, such as Yahoo and WSJ.

My qualifier would be that, if you were to ever offer fee based services from this site, that you would do so from either a secure server and/or require manual authentication before proceeding.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.
