Larry,
<<a 1/4% rate cut seems more symbolic than functional>>

Well, hell's bells, all Fed rates are largely symbolic. The markets decide the functional interest rates.
Greenspan and the Fed are merely highly respected analysts of the economic condition who render an opinion with a Fed fund and/or discount number. The market follows highly respected analysts.

<<That is, should we be buying tomorrow with abandon, or wait for a pullback from today's popup?>>

I'll be up late watching Asian markets, the dollar, and European markets. After which I will light a forbidden cigar, have a couple of fingers of scotch, and go to bed without the foggiest notion of what I will do in the market tomorrow,

Yogi
