why INTC, AMD, NEC, etc...as well as many OEM's would chose RDRAM in place of SDRAM or SLDRAM if it is inferior?

I wouldn't say that RDRAM is inferior. My point is that anyone expecting RDRAM to improve CPU benchmarks will be sadly disappointed.

RDRAM offers several advantages: 1) The narrow data path allows for smaller pin counts, and corresponding lower costs. 2) The high bandwidth is ideal for loading 3D textures into the graphics adapter, (though the AGP bus will probably throttle the transfer to less than maximum RDRAM speeds.)
