Shorting Dell?
this message from Ken.L. on Oct 15 1998 5:48PM EST

Gotta say it. A rate cut just gave me another chance to short Dell.
But not yet I will wait for $60 +. This rate cut has just run up a red flag for the whole world to see...something is rotten in Fedland.

So, let me understand, because you think the economy is in bad shape, you have decided to short;
1) A company in a growth market
2) A company growing at a multiple of that growth
3) A company making money
4) A company that is the most efficient in its field
5) A company that has plenty of room to grow
6) A company improving its efficiency
7) A company that gets paid before it ships the goods
8) A company that gets paid before it pays its suppliers
9) A company that is in a market where people will be forced to buy extra product next year (Y2K and all that....)
10) A company that ...well, you get the picture....

Pardon me for asking, but aren't there, just maybe, some better candidates you could have chosen?
What is your rationale? Why not pick a company that perhaps does not satisfy one or two or even more of the above criteria?

Have a nice day,

JoeC
